Chili and Jazz Festival

As a part of the aggressive media campaign to proactively alter negative impressions of the City of Imperial Beach, WalkePR lent a professional hand to the City’s wholesome, non-profit, family events such as the Chili & Jazz Festival from 1999-2004. The annual festival offered great visuals and story ideas for the media. The event had good name recognition locally but had not received much media coverage.  The public relations strategy was to aim pre-press activity to encourage more chili cook-off teams to participate, to attract greater attendance at the festival and increase the donations to three local charities.   WalkePR was awarded a Bronze Bernay’s of merit by the San Diego Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America in 2000 for the Imperial Beach Chili & Jazz Festival in the special event category, with a budget of $25,000 or less.
